Idun
Named for Iðunn (ᛁᚦᚢᚾ), the Norse goddess who keeps the ApPLes that give the gods eternal youth.
Idun writes APL in runes. Each APL glyph maps to exactly one rune from the Unicode Runic block, and each rune maps back to exactly one glyph, so a program can go from APL to runes and back without losing a byte.
avgᚷ{(+ᚭᛦ)ᛆᛛᛦ}
avg←{(+⌿⍵)÷≢⍵}
That is the usual APL average, shown in runes. Press Show APL at the top to see it, and every other code block on this site, in APL glyphs.
The pieces:
- The mapping: which rune stands for which glyph, and why.
- Idun 387: a font that draws APL in runes, so ordinary APL files simply look like Idun.
- The translator: converts APL source files to rune files and back.
- Keyboard layouts for macOS, and a VS Code extension.
This is a toy, made to make a point. It is not a new language: Idun files are APL with different letters.
